Maybe you don’t have to wish for “forever young”? Because old age isn’t so bad after all? Institute director Dr. Rudi is convinced of this and in his institute for overcoming the fear of old age, he lets young people slip into their terrifying vision of old age: physical infirmities, mental decline, being left behind and loneliness – the list of fears is long, but Dr. Rudi believes they can be overcome through his mimetic exercises. Images of old age from the literary canon serve as a cover for the fears: Molière’s Miser, Shakespeare’s King Lear and Chekhov’s Vanya. The meeting of the three characters within the experiment develops into a humorous evening in which Vanya’s laments mingle with Harpagon’s coughing and Lear’s calls for his daughters. And while his test subjects try to master the clearly regulated everyday life of the institution, Dr. Rudi cordially invites them to an open day at his institute to observe the progress of his experimental characters. …
