More detailsCities shape the people who live in them. They define directions and paths, set boundaries and form obstacles. This is why they often seem alien and forbidding. The dancers in Yaron Shamir’s dance evening confront this feeling of strangeness with speed, precision and power. A breathtaking wolf dance: the urban wolves roam their habitat with roughness, gloom and yet also with grace.
The movement language of Israeli-born choreographer Yaron Shamir demands a strong physical presence and the interplay of fast movements and quiet moments. Urban
wolves are to become his dancers, moving in space as if it were their natural environment. It is not about the question of who is the hunter or the hunted, but rather about the
feeling of sovereignty. “As an urban hunter, you develop skill. You are faster and stronger, but the most valuable skill is the ability to lead others where you want them to go. This allows you to win on your own playing field without having to be the strongest. You have to be as cunning as a wolf and be on the edge of cruelty …”
Together with the dancers of Ballett Graz, Yaron Shamir continues to develop an evening created in 2019 in collaboration with Theater in der Tonne Reutlingen and gives it a new shape.
