More detailsIt’s no wonder that criminal defense lawyer Tessa’s diary is bursting at the seams: one in three women experience sexual violence in their lives – and Tessa mainly defends men who have to stand trial for a sexual offence. In such trials, it’s usually testimony against testimony, and Tessa always manages to get her clients acquitted with her legal skills. …
Tessa, who comes from a working-class family, is living the upwardly mobile dream of a lawyer. She works in a renowned law firm, is asked for legal advice, throws after-work parties and has a secret affair with a colleague. But then something happens that turns her life upside down: She herself becomes the victim of rape. Her report suddenly lands her on the other side of the system, where she is confronted with the same prejudices and hurdles as the victims of her former clients – and has to realize that law and justice are not always the same thing.
With her powerful and multi-award-winning monologue, which was written against the backdrop of the global #MeToo movement, playwright and former lawyer Suzie Miller conquered audiences in Sydney, London and New York and has also been storming German-speaking stages since this season.
