The first market stalls on the main square raise their shutters, two children on their way to school walk to the streetcar, a woman picks up her daily newspaper at the tobacconist, the city wakes up. – An everyday morning on Graz’s main square. But something is different, a small detail that initially goes unnoticed. A crowd gradually forms around the pedestal in the middle of the square. The statue that stood on this very pedestal for centuries has disappeared!

There’s a rumble in the city. Where has the statue gone? Who is profiting from it? Is it a politically motivated act? Four people try to reconstruct the disappearance of the monument in their local pub in the middle of a concert and uncover a common narrative.

The fact that June 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the drive-by in the center of Graz is an opportunity for the local performance collective Das Planetenparty Prinzip to question the workings of collective memory. What is remembered, what is forgotten? What influences our view of the past? Which narratives prevail? How are these reflected in the urban space? And what interests are behind these narratives? With an ensemble of Planetenparty performers and players from Schauspielhaus Graz, a musical theater evening will be developed that invites us to take a critical look at processes of collective memory.
