More details– 25 YEARS OF JAZZ BIGBAND GRAZ –
Yay … we’re celebrating our birthday! Founded 25 years ago as the “Jazz Orchestra of the City of Graz”, we have brought a total of 14 album productions in various formats and over 20 independent programs to the stage. To mark this anniversary, we would like to take a look back from our very first public concert in 1999 at the Orpheum FIRST LIGHT, SWEET MUSIC to the current album THE SPACE BETWEEN US and have invited long-time JBBG members Oliver Kent and Mario Gonzi as well as Morten Ramsbøl as guests in addition to the current line-up. …
The list of musicians in the Jazz Bigband Graz 2000 – 2025 reads like a “Who’s Who” of Austrian jazz history.
For example, our founding rhythm section was John Hollenbeck (drums), Fritz Pauer (piano), Wayne Darling (bass) and Uli Rennert (keys).
After that Gregor Hilbe (drums), Henning Sieverts (bass), Oliver Kent (piano) joined the band and over the years the saxophonists Herwig Gradischnig, Klaus Gesing, Gerald Preinfalk, Johannes Enders, Sebastian Gille, the trombonists Helgi Hrafn Jonsson, Gregorz Nagorski, Rober Bachner or the trumpeters Andi Pesendorfer, Martin Ohrwalder and David Jarh were part of the band for a long time.
Our guests on our productions and countless live concerts have included Theo Bleckmann, Vince Mendoza, Bob Brookmeyer, Ed Neumeister, Fritz Kleinhappl, Nguyen Lé, Matthias Loibner, Hadja Kuyade, Bill Holmann, Take 6, Jon Hendricks, Kurt Elling, Dick Oats, John Fedchock, John Riley, Marko Lackner, Patti Austin, Diane Schuur, The New York Voices and many more.
In addition, we have seen ourselves as cultural ambassadors for the city of Graz for 25 years and, with our various event series and collaborations, contribute to the formation of a strong Styrian music scene that radiates far beyond its borders.
We look forward to welcoming you to this special and unique evening in the beautiful ambience of the DOM im BERG.
Come and celebrate with us! Here’s to a few more years of exciting projects and handmade music at an international Styrian level!
