The Schauspielhaus Graz and the Slam Kollektiv are already entering their sixth season together with the Best of Poetry Slam!
As a live literary format that was made known to the general public in 2014 through viral YouTube hits, the poetry slam has long since made it from the small pubs of the cities to the big stages. Once conceived as a subcultural format away from highly cultural ivory towers, the poetry slam now manages the balancing act between the worlds. Outsiders meet broad appeal, the new meets the established, the working class meets the children of academics.
The texts of slam poets often captivate with their immediate urgency, modern humor, socio-political themes and playful use of the German language. …
Twice a year, absolute greats of the format make the journey to the Styrian capital and bring their repertoire of lyrics with them. The line-up is usually peppered with two international guests and two top-class artists from Austria. They are often poets who have been rocking the German-language slam stages for many years. But sometimes they are also shooting stars who have come out of nowhere to suddenly win poetry slams in a row.
One thing is certain: the name of this event says it all.
Anyone who likes poetry slam will love this event.
