Vince Mendoza – 8-time Grammy Award winner as a guest in Graz!
His arrangements and albums for legends and vocalists such as Björk, Gregory Porter, Chaka Khan, Elvis Costello, Al Jarreau, Diana Krall, Melody Gardot, Sting and Jony Mitchell have earned the versatile arranger 38 nominations to date, and he has won 8 Grammys to date. There is no end in sight to this flood of awards. …
Mendoza is currently Honorary Conductor of the Dutch Metropole Orkest, Composer in Residence at WDR in Cologne and Professor of Jazz Composing at the USC Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles.
His compositions have been performed by the Turtle Island String Quartet Brooklyn Ryder, the Berlin Philharmonic and the BBC Orchestra. The master himself has performed on major stages from Monterey, Montreux and Berlin to the North Sea Jazz Festival.
Here in Graz, Vince Mendoza meets the KUG Jazz Orchestra and will hold workshops over several days and put the finishing touches to the program for the concert in the Dom im Berg.
We can expect a highly motivated big band, fresh arrangements and interpretations of his justifiably award-winning works. An evening like Graz has never experienced before!
