Ennio Morricone – synonymous with film music par excellence! His melodies and motifs have been etched into the collective subconscious of many generations. The fact that it has been possible to realize this program is nothing short of sensational!

Ennio Morricone – he was crowned with two Oscars for his music. Who would think that he never saw his future in music and certainly not in film music? That he was an avant-gardist at heart, an advocate of contemporary and experimental music? He accepted a commission from Hollywood just to survive. An emergency turned into world fame. “Pop music is written for the masses,” he later said. “I also write for the masses, but I write real music!” From the very beginning, he uncompromisingly used exactly the same techniques that he had created in experimental music. The result is masterpieces that have been etched into the collective subconscious for generations.

His music also fascinates me as a classical cellist. His arrangements, which he wrote for cello, show that he himself considered the cello to be extremely suitable for playing his music. But my interest goes beyond these famous cantilenas. I am too fascinated by the cosmos of his infinite tonal colors and expressive techniques. This is how my program “Viva Ennio Morricone” was created together with the Viennese arranger Alexander Wagendristel – a frenzy of sound colors and emotions.

The development of the program, the negotiations with the Morricone family, the work on the individual titles – years passed before the first implementation. For a long time, the program seemed unfeasible. Thanks to our great partners, it is now possible! “Viva Ennio Morricone” – great music for a wonderful summer night concert!
