Marianne Mendt

Marianne Mendt, Austria’s top all-round entertainer, likes to keep a low profile when it comes to superlatives about herself. ‘Basically, I’m just a musician’, she usually says, adding: ‘A passionate musician and singer’. And she has been doing this at the highest artistic level for decades. Mendt, as she is affectionately and respectfully called by her compatriots, literally rang in the dialect wave in Austria at the beginning of the 1970s with her hit ‘Glock’n’. She played numerous musical roles, lived out her passion for jazz and swing, was just as passionate about supporting young jazz musicians in the country and was the director of her own jazz festival for many years. Apart from her numerous appearances in theater, film and television productions, as well as her role as the tobacconist Gitti Schimek in the legendary Kaisermühlen Blues, she is, as she always likes to emphasize, ‘first and foremost about music’.

– All about the 80s: Hits, nostalgic “moments” –

Celebrations take place on stage. The concert program takes place in changing musical formations. ‘From small to large, everything is included,’ she says and then again a postscript: ‘Right up to the big band’. There will be standards as well as the big hits. This will include nostalgic “moments”, as well as guests at some concerts, although the artist is still keeping a low profile: ‘It’s all still at such an early stage, but of course it will be a cross-section of my musical life, including life companions’. A colorful round dance of memories, autobiographical things will be the common thread. Mendt says: ‘I’ve been a musician since I was twelve. So there will be a lot to tell’.

And that’s something to look forward to!

Marianne Mendt will soon be celebrating 80 years of local music and entertainment history, to be seen and heard live as part of a nationwide concert series in 2025. A fixed date in the event calendar for the coming year!
