“Great Austrian Songbook” – from Nestroy to Falco
When an old Nestroy text is given a melancholy melody, when Ambros’ “Schifoan” resembles a downhill run as a lively swing and when Viennese songs are interpreted in the style of jazz icon Ella Fitzgerald, then it’s time for the “Great Austrian Songbook”. It is a journey through the Austrian music history of the last 200 years – from the waltz king Strauss to film music and Austropop, wrapped in a jazzy, swinging garment. The Styrian pianist Lukas Meißl (also well known to our audience as the pianist of the “Moser sings Mey” programs) succeeded in this cultural cross-over with his band around Maximilian Kreuzer on bass and Andreas Reisenhofer on drums. In addition, three renowned guest musicians from all over Austria have been recruited: The charismatic Viennese exceptional singer Ines Reiger, the country’s most versatile accordionist Christian Bakanic and the leader of the Graz Royal Garden jazz band Peter Kunsek on clarinet. Together they celebrate the versatility and timelessness of Austrian music with humor and musical virtuosity. Clichés welcome!
