More detailsSounding longing! – Two mythical lovers are at the center of a concert characterized by impressionist sound magic: Maurice Maeterlinck’s symbolist drama about the forbidden love of Pelléas and Mélisande inspired not only Claude Debussy but also Maurice Ravel’s teacher Gabriel Fauré.
While the fate of Pelléas et Mélisande ends in the tragic death of the two, the love of the two foundlings Daphnis and Chloé finds its fulfillment in the end after all kinds of entanglements. In the tale of the naiad Syrinx, on the other hand, unfulfilled love becomes music: the god Pan builds an instrument from the naiad, who has been transformed into a reed, and uses it to express his longing in sound.
