From waves to wanting is just a small big one … How do you tell the incredibly great, much interpreted, often described and set to music “UNDINE” story – today, sincerely, appropriately? Everyone has their own images, songs, associations, projections or an idea of this story about the love/longing/betrayal/physical and dependency of a female sea creature who gets involved with a human man in order to get what she longs for most: legs/the great love/access to another world/a soul. She is prepared to give everything for this: Home/language/freedom/happiness/life. And in the end? Marriage/death/air/sea foam/an aria/the end credits. Finished? Not at all. …
UNBELIEVABLE, BUT … ARIELLE WAS JUST THE BEGINNING
Following the great success of “THE BIG BAND THEORY”, a large-scale co-production between the Next Liberty and the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz is once again on the program this season: For “UNDINE UNDONE”, twelve exceptional young musical talents (aged 11 to 20) from the KUG’s highly gifted and preparatory courses have formed – they all bring their own (musical) worlds, their own stories, wishes, languages, ways of reading and playing – and are ready to give the questions that the “UNDINE” material raises and leaves open a new interpretation, a – their – very personal soundtrack. Some stories are too big and too deep to be told alone. Some need a whole orchestra.
