On the eve of the First World War, a work saw the light of day that revolutionized dance.
With his composition
Le Sacre du printemps Igor Stravinsky provoked one of the biggest scandals in the history of music and dance in Paris in 1913. The scandal became a triumph for the legendary Ballets Russes and paved the way for ballet in the modern age.

Awakening, exuberance and change characterized the beginning of the 20th century and the driving force and pioneers of these dizzying changes.
Three composers of this time stand for the revolution in music and its effects on the art form of ballet, which was searching for renewal: Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel and Igor Stravinsky. The connections between the three personalities were sometimes more, sometimes less intimate, but their individual compositional development is hardly conceivable without the influence of the others. “The musicians of my generation and I myself owe the most to Debussy!” declared Stravinsky.

Our ballet evening now brings together three groundbreaking works by these musicians and bundles them into a powerfully intense evening of dance about creatures, humans and gods.
In his work, the young choreographer Louis Stiens explores the observations of nature reflected in the works of Ravel and Debussy and our changing view of nature. George Céspedes from Cuba, who is working with a European ballet ensemble for the first time in Graz, creates a wild dance roundelay about the constant change in human civilizations.
