Aida - Das Opernereignis 2026

The circumstances of the war in Paris in November 1871 (the Franco-German War) prevented the premiere of AIDA in Cairo. The premiere did not take place until December 1871 in Cairo. A wartime atmosphere dominates the beginning of the opera’s plot. AIDA, Amonasro’s daughter, has been held hostage at the Egyptian court for years. Several attempts by the Ethiopian royal special forces to free her also fail.

“War, war and more war against Ethiopia” cries the hardened, fanatically militant wing of the Egyptian priestly caste. They are the tireless warmongers and de facto rulers of the pharaonic and multi-ethnic state of Egypt. Their gods are also numerous. The powerless pharaoh
wants peace with his southern neighbor, Ethiopia, but the long-awaited hostage exchange fails and with it the peace negotiations.
In the virile general, RADAMES, he sees the only chance to secure his position of power in the Egyptian empire once again. If RADAMES, who leads the Egyptian troops, wins the war against Ethiopia, he is sure of the hand of the pharaoh’s daughter, AMNERIS.

MUSICAL TRIUMPH BETWEEN LOVE AND DEATH

The goddess Isis and the god Ptah allow RADAMES to win the war. He leads the Ethiopian prisoners, including AMONASRO, before the Ethiopian king in a triumphal procession in THEBEN. AIDA, who has settled in during her long captivity in Egypt, has even fallen in love with none other than
RADAMES, who reciprocates her feelings of love unreservedly. RADAMES has been promised to AMNERIS. Will AIDA and RADAMES, who are actually political enemies, have to pay for their love with death?

The opera ensemble “Opera Italiana” will be accompanied by the renowned conductor, Maestro GIORGIO CROCI, who has a proven track record at the Arena di Verona.
