Adventurers, explorers, and artists were magically drawn to the vastness of the landscape, the exoticism of the cultures, and the melting pots of the cities. That these dreams have often turned out to be nothing but a pipe dream is clearer today than ever before. …
Fritz Karl, known for countless films and TV series, takes a wide-ranging look in his new program “Oh, America!” spans the spectrum from European artists who dreamed of America to the present-day reality of a nervous, neurotic, and unpredictable country, reading texts by Klaus Mann, Isaac B. Singer, Woody Allen, David Sedaris, and Bill Bryson.
He will be accompanied by the Sonare Linz string quartet, which will perform patriotic pieces ranging from Antonín Dvořák and Samuel Barber to John Philip Sousa, as well as swing and jazz numbers by George Gershwin, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Frank Sinatra, and others.
