They’re back—Fiordiligi and Guglielmo, and Dorabella and Ferrando, who put their relationships on the line amid the emotional turmoil of a daring test of fidelity! In her production, acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, director Barbara-David Brüesch transports one of Mozart’s most famous operas into the present day. She sets the work in a cozy single-family home, amidst blenders and designer furniture, demonstrating that the power of emotions remains as strong today as it was yesterday.

Don Alfonso puts forward a bold claim: no woman can be faithful. Guglielmo and Ferrando are outraged, as they are absolutely certain of the fidelity of their partners, Fiordiligi and Dorabella. Without hesitation, they agree to an experiment: a staged test of fidelity involving all manner of madness, disguises, and confusion. Starting out lighthearted and humorous, the game escalates further and further and, despite a superficial happy ending, leads to deep emotional wounds as well as an irreversible realization on the part of the couples.
In their third brilliant collaboration, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte captured a theme that was buzzing in the air of the time: partner swapping. Behind the lighthearted, frivolous façade, however, they explore the repercussions of this questionable test of fidelity. Thus, with musical mastery, Mozart performs open-heart surgery that lays bare the depth of genuine emotions.
