radio.string.quartet

The four members Bernie Mallinger (violin), Igmar Jenner (violin), Sophia Abraham (violoncello) and Cynthia Liao (viola) are united by their ambition to expand the sound spectrum of the classical string quartet. Anything is possible on the 16 strings. Whether jazz-rock groove or pop-loving songs, new music or European folk tradition: the radio.string.quartet has already crossed a number of borders and has thus earned itself a firm place in the non-classical string quartet genre alongside the US pioneers of the Kronos Quartet and the Turtle Island Quartet.

In the radio.string.quartet, all four musicians find the freedom to contribute their musical ideas and cultural identity. The arrangements are the result of teamwork, with all ensemble members contributing their own compositions. In this sense, they see themselves as protagonists of a new Viennese string school: Vienna with its rich musical tradition, but also with its new multicultural openness.
