A production of the Komische Oper Berlin
“Yippee, Mississippi!” – Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn embark on a wild adventure filled with friendship, courage, and the magic of growing up! Director Tobias Ribitzki brings Mark Twain’s legendary characters to the stage of the Graz Opera as a musical for the whole family, featuring music by Kurt Weill, the children of the Singschul՚, and a large orchestra—colorful, funny, and full of heart-pounding excitement!…
Tom Sawyer is the biggest troublemaker on the Mississippi—at least that’s what Aunt Polly thinks. But together with his best friend Huck, he has amazing adventures and overcomes every tricky situation with wit and courage. When the two of them witness a crime, their carefree youth comes to an end: Tom must decide whether to betray the real culprit—and in doing so, he demonstrates true heroism. Amid all the excitement, Becky, the new girl in town, also sets hearts racing.
Shortly before his death, Kurt Weill sketched out five songs for a Tom Sawyer musical. This unfinished work was expanded into a complete family musical based on additional compositions by Weill—it premiered at the Komische Oper Berlin in 2023, and shortly thereafter made its Austrian debut in Graz. Following its great success in the 2023/24 season, this humorous, rousing production is now returning to the Graz Opera.
