The story of Little Red Riding Hood? Every child knows it! Once upon a time, in a forest. There were many trees, countless flowers, and even more paths to get lost on. And there were Little Red Riding Hood and her mother—and her grandmother. And of course, a wolf lived there too, one who hoped that this time, the girl would go against her mother’s advice and stray from the right path. We all know that! BUT you didn’t know that in this forest there was also an ambitious crow and a know-it-all narrator, an almost blind mole, and some likable musicians—right? This fall, ensemble member Christoph Steiner brings his own, utterly charming interpretation of the Grimm blockbuster back to the Next Liberty stage, once again with great joy in storytelling and theatrical magic. You can’t get more fairy tale than this. …
This unusual journey through the world of Grimm’s fairy tales has taken Christoph Steiner and his musicians from the stage of Graz’s Next Liberty, through the “KuKuK” Festival, to the remotest regions of Styria, and all the way to… America. In 2018, Next Liberty was the only Austrian theater to have the special honor of representing Austria at the Kids Euro Festival—which brings a little bit of “Europe” to the U.S. capital, Washington, D.C., every year—with its production “WOLF.” With over 80 free events, this international festival is one of the largest American cultural events for children.
In addition, “Wolf” was nominated in 2018 for the STELLA18 Performing Arts Award for Young Audiences—the Austrian award for outstanding achievements in theater for young audiences—in the “Outstanding Music” category.
