Someone – or someone – just doesn’t want to die yet. Doesn’t have the time. Or is too attached to life.
Or has too much mischief in his body not to take on the emissary of death, the crooked
Boandlkramer. And, scandalously, there is a woman who not only goes hunting on
equal terms, but also poaches in the hunting grounds of the high forest and life, a woman who plays with
death. Life is a game. Why shouldn’t it be death too?
The no longer dewy-eyed Kasparin lives with her granddaughter Marei and her fiancé on a
miserable farm. Which doesn’t matter much, because you don’t have to be rich to find this life fun and
exciting. Far too exciting to die before you’re ready. The Boandlkramer, the
heavenly emissary of death, recklessly allows himself to be invited for a schnapps and even seduced into playing
cards. A game with the stakes of life begins. But all this comes at a price,
which the others often have to pay. Insight often only comes when it is too late. But there is still
real love, loyalty and two upright young people who even the nastiness from the village does not
prevent them from sticking together. So what counts in this life now? And what is worth fighting for?
