Andreas Rainer, known as the Viennese Everyday Poet, collects quotes and scurrilities from everyday life in Vienna for over 300,000 followers on social media. His focus in the city of big stages is primarily on the small alleyways, coffee houses, subway stations and supermarkets where comedy and tragedy go hand in hand every day. …
After successfully remaining anonymous for years, he ventured onto the stage for the first time in 2025 – and with success: all dates were sold out. Using the most popular quotes of the last eight years, he tells the story of Vienna’s everyday poets in his programme, why he is only recognized in Graz or in swimming trunks and tries to work out a guide on how to survive the most liveable city in the world. After all, how can it be that Vienna is both the most liveable and the most unfriendly city in the world? Why do we have the leisure to while away the whole day in a coffee house, but scream in panic for a second checkout when three people are queuing in front of us in the supermarket?
With pictures, texts and quotes from everyday life in Vienna, Andreas Rainer paints an evening-long picture of a city in which pomp is thrown around while twenty meters away the world is already coming to an end.
