Ein Übertritt

Elfriede Jelinek’s play is set to have its Austrian premiere at the Schauspielhaus Graz. It is directed by Victoria Halper and Kai Krösche, who are currently making waves in the German-speaking theater scene as the directing duo DARUM. They often work with immersive settings, both in analog and digital spaces. Their VR evening “[EOL]. End of Life,” which was presented at the 2025 Berlin Theatertreffen and at the Digithalia Festival in Graz, received significant international attention. Their work plays with the tools of overwhelming impact, which they also use to bring Jelinek’s eloquent text to the stage in a cross-media production. In this way, they translate Jelinek’s linguistic imagery—in which meanings constantly overlap and shift—into a theatrical world where music, visual media, and acting combine to create a theatrical experience that is as visually striking as it is enlightening.
