Animal Farm is a dystopian fable by George Orwell, published in 1945. The story centers on the rebellion of the animals on an English farm against the rule of their human owner, who neglects and exploits them. Although our production—with a stage adaptation by Paul Stebbings, directed by Gaspard Legandre, and music by John Kenney—strives to remain faithful to Orwell’s story, it also seeks to show that the Russian Revolution need not be its sole point of reference. Time and again throughout human history, there have been failed, violence-driven attempts to bring about fundamental social change overnight. The three main creators—Stebbings, Kenney, and Legandre—have produced a work that is both thought-provoking and entertaining.
