Information
A musical and literary homage to Elena Ferrante
It is one of the biggest success stories of recent years: the
four-volume Naples saga by Elena Ferrante. It tells the story of friends Lila and Elena, who grow up together in the 1950s in the “Rione”, a working-class district, and remain connected for six decades – until one disappears without a trace
and the other looks back on their life together. We hear excerpts from all four volumes – congenially interpreted by Eva Mattes and set to traditional Neapolitan songs as well as “canzoni” from the 50-70 years and intermezzi by singer-
songwriter Etta Scollo. …
Since 1966, Eva Mattes has appeared in around 200 feature films, television films and theater productions in leading and supporting roles and has been honored with numerous prizes and awards. Her directors have included R. W. Fassbinder, Werner Herzog, Michael Verhoeven and Peter Zadek. From 2002 to 2016, she played the Tatort
detective Klara Blum in Constance on Lake Constance. She has now read around
one hundred audio books.
The composer and singer Etta Scollo was born in Catania, Sicily
and now lives in Berlin. Many critics have described her as “the voice of Sicily”
. In her musical programs, she transports the audience to other worlds with
her own style, which lies between Sicilian tradition, avant-garde, jazz and
chanson. She has been performing internationally with various
music programs since 1983 and will release her 19th
CD “Nirgendland” in January 2025.
