Childhood years in Kaisermühlen, eviction, a children’s home, and finally Spiegelgrund, that “special children’s ward” of the German Reich where euthanasia murders of sick and disabled children took place. Zawrel—classified as “hereditarily and socially inferior”—is tormented by the institution’s doctor, Dr. Gross, but manages to escape from the facility. It is not until the year 2000, after many efforts on Zawrel’s part, that a trial takes place, which is dismissed due to Gross’s alleged dementia. He can no longer remember anything. …
