Harry and Jo are a couple, and everyone thought they’d stay together forever. But after ten years, they’re not just sorting through their shared CD collection—they’re breaking up and setting out to discover their identities beyond the relationship. While Harry comes out as trans and embraces the change with self-determination, Jo isn’t quite sure what to do with herself. Then she meets Gabby. , a tale that oscillates between courage and self-doubt, independence and societal expectations. The two women’s life paths—and the decisions and experiences that come with them—are different. Yet they are united by their search for ways to stand up for themselves in the face of the challenges that change brings.
Director MoMo Matsunyane, who opened the 2025/26 season with her production of Lorraine Hansberry’s “Les Blancs,” now turns her attention to “Otherland,” a moving piece of contemporary drama, bringing it to the Schauraum for its German-language premiere with narrative power.
