Wir töten Stella
Wir töten Stella

Information
More detailsA woman stands at the window and thinks – about herself, about her family and, above all, about the causes of a tragic incident that has forever destroyed the peace and order of her life, which had been carefully guarded until then. While everything continues as usual on the outside, Anna tries to find out what happened. It all began when a friend entrusted her with 19-year-old Stella as a foster daughter. The events unfold once again in the narrator’s mind’s eye with thriller-like suspense as she asks herself the big question of guilt and responsibility. However, her mercilessly repetitive self-accusation raises the question of how reliable this narrative and this narrator herself are. Is there perhaps a story behind the story, in which things reveal themselves in a different truth? …
As a director and author, Jakab Tarnóczi is interested in this space of possibility that always opens up in Haushofer’s novella, as in all of her writing.
Marlen Haushofer is one of the most important Austrian authors, whose literary standing is still largely underestimated despite regular rediscoveries of her work. As part of our successfully established program line of canon expansion and consolidation, we are bringing her to the big stage of the Schauspielhaus in a specially written theatrical adaptation.
