LaBrassBanda rings in the “Polka Party”!
The Bavarian brass rebels are back with a new album and a brilliant tour! With their unique blend of brass, pop, techno and ska, paired with Bavarian charm and a good dose of punk attitude, they have revolutionized brass music and thrilled millions of fans. What initially began as a musical revolution in Bavaria in 2007, shaking the guardians of tradition there and at the same time attracting young people in droves to brass music on stages and in clubs, took hold of the whole of Germany by 2013 at the latest at the German preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest. This was followed by sold-out concert halls from Berlin to Cologne, from Hamburg to Munich. No language barriers with lyrics in Bavarian dialect: no problem. The biggest festival stages at the Southside and Hurricane festivals, among others, were literally overrun by fans when the band around frontman Stefan Dettl even set the night sky alight with their rousing sound of brass-pop, hip-hop, punk and techno. LaBrassBanda are a live force to be reckoned with, and word quickly spread across Europe: in 2014, the musicians, all of whom studied at university, toured the UK in a nightliner and are now an established name at all major festivals.
The group recorded their 2014 album “Kiah Royal” in a cowshed. Guest musicians were Christoph Well, Rocko Schamoni and Stephan Remmler. Together with music journalist Jan Wehn, the band published the book “Barefoot in Lederhosen around the World” in 2022, a mixture of illustrated book and biography that looks back on the band’s travels to Marrakesh, Novosibirsk and the USA.
2024 was an eventful year for the band. With the singles “Goaßnmaß”, “Teufelstanz” and “Space Bäda”, they already gave a foretaste of their upcoming album and once again proved their musical versatility. “Goaßnmaß” celebrated friendship and good company, while “Teufelstanz” made a powerful statement against anti-Semitism, racism and discrimination. With “Space Bäda”, a collaboration with rapper Roger Rekless, they successfully ventured into new territory and fused Bavarian sounds with modern hip-hop.
Now the new album “Polka Party” is in the starting blocks, with the cover – a hand-painted watercolor – designed by the renowned German artist Tobias Rehberger.
From March 21, 2025, fans can look forward to a firework display of good humor that will set the dance floors alight.
