The band project Alpen & Glühen, initiated by the internationally renowned trumpet virtuoso and stylistic jack-of-all-trades Thomas Gansch, sees itself as a supergroup of outstanding musicians who have come together in this project to combine their different musical socializations into an aesthetically diverse body of sound. Folk music traditions meet jazz, filigree music-making meets rousing improvisations, a Boarischer with a humorous groove meets an Indian raga translated into Austrian. What may initially sound like wild stylistic pluralism is woven together on stage into special worlds of sound that are melancholic, ecstatic and humorous all in one.
With the Grammy-nominated musician Manu Delago, the frontman of the jazz upstarts Shake Stew Lukas Kranzelbinder and the creative ingenuity of the radio.string.quartet, the project has played completely sold-out and frenetically acclaimed tours through Austria, Germany and Italy in the last two years, played its debut concert in the Great Hall of the venerable Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and achieved a top position in the Austrian album charts for its debut album.
