Biedermann und die Brandstifter

It all begins with a match. It is lit in the bourgeois coziness of Gottlieb Biedermann. Everyday, harmless.
Gottlieb and Babette Biedermann live as they are called: a home, a business, domestic help, silver and crystal. But times are troubled. There are always fires in the neighborhood. One day, two strange figures turn up at the door. Biedermann lets them in, although the two let it be known from the start what they really want: To start a fire. When the arsonists bring barrels of petrol into the attic, the Biedermanns make a half-hearted attempt to get rid of them – which is thwarted with the “best and safest disguise”: “… the bare and naked truth. Funnily enough. Nobody believes it.” It comes as it must.
