Information
More detailsThe music-loving Bertolucci dreams of a proper marriage between his daughter Clorinda and the cultured antiques dealer Caramello – a connoisseur of classical music and member of the “State Academy of Pompeian Amphorae”. But Clorinda loves her music teacher, the young composer Fabricio, whose works her father considers an imposition. A supposed star visitor causes a commotion: the celebrated musician Fagotto appears as best man – but in reality Bertolucci’s devious servant Bacolo is hiding under the wig. What follows is a firework display of deception, vanity and musical rivalries, culminating in a tangible quarrel between the “Fagottians” and “Caramellians”. Jacques Offenbach’s early one-act opera exposes the musical sectarianism of its time in sparkling satire. Opernstudio Graz presents this comic gem, staged by Christian Thausing, at Café Stolz and the Stadttheater Leoben.
