“Legends, Pop & Symphony” – A Musical Journey Through History
A special musical highlight awaits the audience at the Kasematten on the Schlossberg in Graz. Under the promising title “Legends, Pop & Symphony,” the Styrian State Youth Wind Orchestra (LJBO), under the musical direction of Italian conductor, composer, and professor of wind orchestra conducting, Marco Somadossi, a concert program that impressively combines stylistic diversity, musical quality, and a summery atmosphere.
The evening’s program features, among other works, the demanding pieces “Dance Movements” by Philip Sparke and “The Stone Guardians” by Thomas Doss. Both pieces are part of intensive preparations for the renowned international wind orchestra competition Flicorno d’Oro in Riva del Garda and impressively demonstrate the orchestra’s musical level and tonal range.
The concert evening opens up a diversity that goes far beyond mere competition repertoire: Under the motto “Legends, Pop & Symphony,” a common thread runs through the history of wind music as it engages with pop and rock music. Impressive symphonic arrangements meet familiar melodies, presented in a new musical guise. The result is a varied program that combines tradition and modernity and offers a broad musical spectrum for many generations.

The Styrian State Youth Wind Orchestra brings together young musicians from all regions of Styria to form a symphonic ensemble. Around 70 talented musicians—from Bad Aussee to Bad Radkersburg, from Mariazell to Spielfeld—combine their musical power and impressively demonstrate the potential of Styria’s young wind musicians.
With new interpretations and artistic collaborations at the highest level, the select orchestra, under the direction of State Youth Representative Sabrina Csrnko and Markus Adam, demonstrates the diversity and quality that Styrian youth wind musicians have to offer.
