Ute Lemper singt Marlene Dietrich: "Rendezvous mit Marlene"
Information
Broadway star Ute Lemper returns to the Komödie Graz with Marlene Dietrich’s greatest hits! A critically acclaimed production that is a must-see…
When Ute Lemper played Sally Bowles in *Cabaret* in Paris nearly four decades ago at the age of 23, the newspapers called her “the new Marlene.” Marlene Dietrich was living in her apartment in Paris at the time; she was 87 years old and hadn’t left her home in a decade. Ute wrote her a letter to express her admiration for the legend and to apologize for the comparisons. Marlene called her back, and the two women spoke about life, Germany, tragic history, love, courage, and women’s freedom. The very young Ute listened to the elderly Marlene for three hours, and her impressions grew deeper over the decades. Thirty years later, Ute wrote her show “Rendezvous with Marlene.” Her encounter with the legend, Marlene Dietrich—a woman of the future, far ahead of her time, a grand and tragic life that would end in 1992, when Ute herself played Marlene’s signature role in “The Blue Angel” in Berlin. In a twist of fate, Ute now embodies Marlene’s story. With some of her greatest hits.
