In Vienna, you encounter “Herr Karl” in many different forms, in countless places. Helmut Qualtinger’s character, which has become a classic, is everywhere. Qualtinger’s text was first performed as a puppet show starring Nikolaus Habjan at Vienna’s Schubert Theater. Now the award-winning production—which won the Audience Award at “bestOFFstyria 2.10”—is being presented at the Schauspielhaus Graz. In it, Nikolaus Habjan uses his puppets to slip into a wide variety of roles, all of which together make up “Herr Karl.”…
