There is bitter cold, passionate love, and dramatic death! Drawing inspiration from Hoffmann’s tales, director Tobias Ribitzki once again turns his attention to an opera that focuses on artistic life and creativity : Giacomo Puccini’s masterpiece *La Bohème *. Ensemble members Corina Koller (Mimì) and Pavel Petrov (Rodolfo) star as one of the most legendary lovers of all time. At the podium, Principal Conductor Vassilis Christopoulos explores Puccini’s zest for life, as well as the deadly drama of the score.

Despite his constant financial worries, the poet Rodolfo devotes himself entirely to his art. When he meets Mimì, who is also penniless, a passion is kindled within him that serves as the artist’s source of inspiration. But along with his beloved, harsh reality also descends upon the poet: Mimì is terminally ill. The merciless reality of life and the carefree existence of a bohemian come into irreconcilable conflict.
With his fourth opera, Puccini created a world-famous tribute to the artistic life and bohemian lifestyle. By the time of its creation, the composer—who had by then become wealthy himself—translated Henri Murger’s *Scènes de la vie de bohème* into passionate and moving music that shifts between intimate chamber drama and imposing crowd scenes. Director Tobias Ribitzki interprets Puccini’s masterpiece through sensual imagery as a reflection on the unconditional nature of the artist’s existence and a love that cannot be overcome.
