What would music be like without love? What would love be without music? In opera, love often develops into a dramatic conflict: in Mozart between passion and morality, in Verdi between social duty and personal happiness. In Richard Strauss, it is at times tender and rapturous, then painful and ecstatic. Their arias, duets and orchestral works are sonorous mirrors of human emotion – without boundaries and beyond time.
